The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has placed orders worth approximately INR1.55 billion (US16 million) for Indrajaal Ranger mobile counter-uncrewed aerial system (C-UAS) platforms for border security and urban policing.
The orders comprise an INR1.45 billion contract awarded to the Indrajaal-Sigma consortium for border-security deployment and a separate order of approximately INR100 million from an urban police agency for VVIP protection and urban security.
Indrajaal Ranger is designed to detect, track, identify and counter drones while operating on the move. The platform combines sensors, artificial intelligence, sensor fusion and command and control with multiple countermeasures, according to the companies.
The deployments extend the use of mobile C-UAS beyond fixed military and strategic installations to border areas, VVIP routes and urban environments. The companies said the Ranger has undergone government evaluation and was selected by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The platform includes electronic and physical countermeasures, with the company describing capabilities for taking control of certain drones, establishing protective airspace boundaries and physically intercepting drones. The Economic Times reported that the system is intended for applications including border security, VVIP protection and urban policing.
