Skyports Drone Services has been shortlisted as one of the few drone operators in the UK to take part in the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) Light UAS Operator Certificate (LUC) trial.
The new trial framework enables Skyports, as a trusted operator, to self approve certain drone operations in the UK, negating the need for individual SORA applications.
The company holds a LUC in Ireland with the Irish Aviation Authority and Broad Area BVLOS Approval in Australia with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
The CAA reports in a Linkedin post it has shortlisted nine drone operators to take part in the LUC trial.
According to the CAA’s website:-:
“This policy introduces a 12-month trial of the LUC concept for eligible UAS operators. The trial will allow the CAA to assess safety performance, compliance, and oversight effectiveness before considering wider adoption or integration with UK SORA methodology.” The objectives of this policy are to give suitable UAS operators a means of authorising their operations without submitting individual SORA applications for every UAS activity; ensure that all operations remain within agreed limits by using existing organisational systems and competence; allow the CAA to carry out oversight and assurance in a way that is proportionate and practical, while supporting operational flexibility.
