German Railways to test BVLOS drone monitoring flights in Ingolstadt

On 17 January the German Minister of State for Digitisation Dorothee Bär, Deutsche Bahn Board Member for Digitisation and Technology Prof. Dr. Sabina Jeschke and the Mayor of Ingolstadt Dr. Christian Lösel signed a declaration of intent to research the use of drone technology to monitor DB’s rail infrastructure.

“In model tests, the use of drones and flying taxis as well as the necessary framework conditions are to be investigated,” according to drone manufacturer Quantum Systems. The company’s Trinity F9 will be used to investigate whether it is possible to make high-resolution image material available at low cost for a wide range of evaluations.
