Naviair UTM receives DKK25 million to develop drone infrastructure in Denmark

Danish air navigation service provider Naviair reports DKK25 million government funding to  finance the development of an air traffic management platform for beyond visual line of sight BVLOS drone operations by the agency Naviair UTM.

Naviair UTM plans to establish a test version of the platform at the drone test centre located at Hans Christian Andersen Airport near Odense. The test project is already underway and is administered by Naviair in collaboration with the Danish Transport, Building and Housing Agency, University of Southern Denmark, Hans Christian Anders Airport and UAS Denmark.

Drones are expected to provide climate-friendly operations for package deliveries, environmental monitoring and other services.

Drones are currently only allowed to fly within the visual line of sight of the drone operator, and under very restrictive regulations in Denmark. When the UTM platform is fully operational, it will be possible for the drone operator to fly beyond visual line of sight.
