SpaceRay, a member company of Ukraine’s Tech Force in UA, has developed the SpaceRay SA — a handheld tracking and targeting system that supports the operations of mobile fire groups and air defence units, according to a Tech Force in UA Linkedin post. “More than 50 units are already utilizing the system,” says the company.
“This complex integrates a thermal imaging sensor, a laser designator, and a 7-inch monitor. It allows for the detection of strike UAVs such as the Shahed-136, Geran, and Gerbera at long ranges, “highlighting” them for various engagement assets, said the post.
“The system serves as an alternative to expensive air defense missiles against low-cost kamikaze drones. The cost per interception is reduced to as low as USD500. Laser target marking allows machine gunners and anti-aircraft units to see the enemy at distances of up to 5 km, even in total darkness. The complex provides a clear trajectory for interceptor drones at ranges of up to 12 km, guiding them directly to the target. The system operates stably in extreme conditions, ranging from -25°C to +45°C. Training requires only a 30-minute briefing and a few hours of practice.
According to the company: “The device fulfills its mission 100%. Using two systems simultaneously allows a group to receive target designation in the form of a laser crosshair, which significantly simplifies the work of shooters without night vision or thermal devices,” share unit commanders.”
