Malaysia’s Birdie-X “develops laser-based C-UAS”

Birdie-X has developed a counter-drone laser system, according to Malaysian daily New Straits Times.

The article states that the directed energy weapon system was developed through a collaboration between the Royal Malaysian Air Force, the Science and Technology Research Institute for Defence (Stride) and Benua Defence Sdn Bhd.

Designed to provide a low-cost aerial defence, the Malaysian-manufactured system would enable maintenance, repair and upgrades to be carried out domestically without reliance on foreign contractor.
