France and Iraq have agreed on a strategic roadmap for future defence and armament acquisitions for the Iraqi military, provided by French companies.
As part of a wider agreement, a Letter of Intent signed by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Ali Al-Zaydi, relates to autonomous air defence and counter-uncrewed aerial systems (C-UAS) platforms from French company Harmattan AI.
Harmattan AI has developed two kinetic C-UAS interceptor systems. Gobi is designed to intercept group 1-2 UAS and Gobi Tempest targets group 2-3 UAS. Both systems are capable of reaching speeds of up to 350 km/h to attack hostile drones.
In a joint statement, the Iraqi Prime Minister announced his intention to support discussions between the French companies and the Iraqi Ministry of Defence relating to C-UAS systems, air defence, surveillance and other technologies.
