European Defence Agency invites research into safe RPAS integration

The European Defence Agency (EDA) has extended the deadline for submissions to conduct a study on “Accommodation validation for MALE-type Remotely Piloted Aerial Systems (RPAS) operations.” The EDA completed an earlier study, entitled ‘Accommodation of large-RPAS: scenarios and Safety Case’ published in February 2019, which defines standard scenarios (validated by real-time simulations) and corresponding tailored risk assessment (safety case) of this kind of operations. This more recent request for a follow-up study is directed towards performing flight test validation of several RPAS accommodation scenarios for MALE-type operations in non-segregated airspace and enabling the initial implementation of the validated scenarios at national level.
