Volcopter and infrastructure/UTM partners “to bring eVTOL operations to Italy by 2024”

Volocopter, Atlantia, Aeroporti di Roma, the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) and ENAV, Italy’s air navigation service provider have announced a partnership to bring urban air mobility to Italy in the next two to three years.

“The new service will connect the international hub “Leonardo da Vinci” with various places in Rome, through vertical airports. This will allow to travel in comfort and quality, reducing greatly both the congestion of urban traffic and CO2 emissions, as the 18 engines of VoloCity operate in electric mode,” according to a Volocopter press release.

According to Maurizio Paggetti, COO of ENAV in a social media post:

“We are ready to integrate the new aircraft of urban air mobility with safety and efficiency over the Italian skies. The harmonization and integration of new aircraft with traditional ones is one of the most important challenges for ENAV. Even if at low altitudes, access to the vertical dimension will have to be harmonized with air traffic at airports and with that operating on urban skies with various purposes (rescue, public security, civil protection, territorial control, air work). The ENAV Group has all the components of expertise, competence and technical-operational capacity. We will be central to the realization of the mobility of the future in synergy with ENAC – Ente Nazionale per l’Aviazione Civile the other stakeholders”.
