Tanzania’s Ministry of Transport and the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) held a two-day stakeholder consultation in Dar es Salaam earlier this month, to gather industry input on draft new and amended regulations before they are finalised.
The African Drone Forum states that these draft regulations include uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), heliports, safety management systems and communication systems for UAS. Indeed, in the TCAA documentation viewed by Unmanned Airspace, remotely piloted aircraft is singled out as one of the key areas for the new regulations.
Director of Transport Services Biseko Chiganga said the goal is regulation that keeps pace with technological change and aligns with international standards, while TCAA’s Director of Safety Regulation, Eng. John Nzulule framed the consultation as reflecting the government’s commitment to an inclusive, responsive regulatory framework.
“For drone operators and manufacturers working in or eyeing the Tanzanian market, this is a signal worth watching, as the rules for UAS operations in the country come into clearer view,” said the African Drone Forum.
