Telia, AirborneRF partnership aims to develop BVLOS operations in Nordic region

Nordic telecommunications company Telia has partnered with the AirborneRF platform developed by Dimetor to provide supplementary data that is critical for safe beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone operations, says the press release.

The trial with Telia is part of the innovation project PNK, which aims to test, document and evaluate the possibility and expediency of using the mobile network to position – navigate – communicate with driverless flying vehicles out of sight of the operator but under supervision, safely and in accordance with laws and regulations.

Through the partnership, Telia aims to explore solutions for multiple UAV services, such as first responders, aerial mapping, inspection, surveillance and delivery. The partnership with AirborneRF demonstrates Telia’s commitment to driving business value and providing innovative solutions to the market using standard 4G and 5G, dedicated private local and public 5G networks, as well as cross border operations.

The partnership aims to unlock potential applications in the Nordic region. The trial in Sweden will test solutions that will ensure safe and secure BVLOS drone operations on scale, paving the way for the deployment of drones in a range of industries. The partnership demonstrates Telia’s commitment to driving business value with innovation, and AirborneRF’s suite of digitization tools offers a comprehensive solution that will enable organizations to focus on their core business.

“We are working successfully with the AirborneRF team for the last couple of years and really appreciate the partnership.  As part of the engagement, we are utilizing AirborneRF to provide aerial connectivity and ground risk data from Telia’s network for flight planning and risk assessment of BVLOS operations”, says Jan Pettersson, Head of Airspace Digitalization Initiative at Telia.   “Providing dynamic and accurate data digitally, in an automated process, will help our customers to accelerate the deployment of groundbreaking services in the digital airspace”.
