ISO publishes new standard for UTM “Data model for spatial data”

EuroUSC Italia S.r.l. reports in a social media post that after almost three years of work, in September 2021 Sub-Committee SC 16 of ISO Technical Committee TC 20 gave its unanimous vote to the final draft (FDIS) of the new InternationalStandard ISO 23629-7 on UAS Traffic Management (UTM) — Part 7: Data model for spatial data.

“This document specifies the data model related to various spatial information for common use between the UAS operator and the system for UTM, specifying the names of the items for the data model, while the communication architecture and responsibilities of actors to define the items are not included,” reports EuroUSC Italia.

“This is only the first among the standard in the ISO series 23629, covering in fact functional architecture, semantics and a range of UTM services and requirements for the related providers.”

“The new standard will greatly improve interoperability and common understanding across the world-wide community of UAS operators and UTM service providers.”

ISO Technical Committee TC 20’s missions is “The Standardization in the field of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) including, but not limited to, classification, design, manufacture, operation (including maintenance) and safety management of UAS operations.”
