Danish U-space demonstration in Odense plans VLOS flights in shared airspace

Danish drone operator Holo is participating in a series of Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) missions at Odense University Hospital in a dedicated U-space area. The aim is to detect helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) helicopters and demonstrate the ability to abort a mission before reaching the hospital.

Holo is conducting pilot training at Hans Christian Andersen Airport to ensure the UTM system, safety procedures and the drone itself operate correctly.

Holo participates in Denmark’s HealthDrone project, a three-year innovation project funded by Innovation Fund Denmark. The aim is to develop and test HealthDrones to transport patient samples, medicine and medical equipment between hospital units, medical practices and home-visiting nurses.

In December 2020, Healthdrone received Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) approval to fly Beyond Visual Line Of Sight (BVLOS) on the Danish island Ærø. The programme plans to start drone flights on a 5 kilometers BVLOS route in non-segregated airspace in 2021, bringing partners closer to establishing reliable and efficient drone-based cargo routes,
