Canada simulates BVLOS flights to validate communications using medium earth orbit satellite connection

In a continuation of Canada’s Energy Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) Trials (EUT), AirMarket reports a demonstration using its SKYLINK UTM services (featuring drone command and communication and tracking) to validate delivery over the Omnispace medium earth orbit satellite connection.

According to the AirMarket LinkedIn post, the demonstration was conducted in Mexico due to the ease of securing the requisite bandwidth and landing rights. Partners included Omnispace and Unmanned Systems International.

The demonstration consisted of simulated flight operations controlled in Edmonton, Canada as part of the Energy UTM Trials (EUT).   These trials are conducted with Transport Canada and NAV Canada and are providing data for the regulatory development process for UTM & BVLOS.
