Austria has set up a portal for drone operations. Austro Control Dronespace supports drone operators with information including areas of operation, special regulations, exclusion zones and air traffic control data. Austrian aviation regulations permit drone operations in certain areas. Austro Control Dronespace also provides an online map. The regulations allow flights in the following areas only with the prior authorisation or consent of Austro Control or other authorities:
📋 Control zones: Before operating the drone in the vicinity of airports, the consent of the relevant air traffic control unit must be obtained.
📋 Security zones: In this case, it is necessary to apply for a separate permit.
📋 Flight restriction areas (e.g. Vienna, Lake Neusiedl, Rhine Delta): In this case, it is necessary to apply for a separate permit. Please note that drones weighing less than 250 g and operating below 30 m above ground no longer require an operating licence as of 12.08.2022.
📋 Airfields: Since 12.08.2022, operations have only been permitted outside the airfield operating hours before the operation of the unmanned aerial vehicle. The operating hours of the aerodromes can be found in the Austrian Aeronautical Information Manual (AIP Austria).
📋 Military control zones: Before operating the unmanned aerial vehicle, the consent of the locally responsible military air traffic control must be obtained.
