27 October deadline for latest industry white paper proposals for NAS UAS integration

Companies wanting to send in white papers in response to the US Department of Transportation’s latest call for technology  solutions to the integration of UAS in the National Airspace System (Solicitation: 692M15-19-R-00020-0002 Call 002) have until 27 October to send in their proposals.

The Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration Office (UASIO) issued a call for white papers for the Interest Topics identified within BAA 692M15-19-R-00020; Amendment 001 (see below). The FAA has a requirement to demonstrate or validate technologies the FAA considers essential to the safe integration of UAS into the NAS at FAA designated UAS Test Sites. This Call is for the demonstration or validation of UAS technology with a Technical Readiness Level (TRL) between 5 and 7 for the following technologies:

  • UAS001 – Detect and Avoid (DAA) Capability
  • UAS002 – Beyond Visual Line of Sight Operations (BVLOS)
  • UAS003 – Operation of Multiple Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS)
  • UAS004 -Unmanned Aircraft Systems Traffic Management (UTM)
  • UAS005 – Improvement of Privacy Protections Through the Use of Advances in UAS Technology
  • UAS006 – Command & Control (C2)
  • UAS007 – Other Critical Priorities

Since 2013, the UAS Test Sites have supported the FAA with UAS integration by providing an avenue for the UAS industry and stakeholder community to conduct advanced research and operational concept validation. There are seven designated UAS Test Sites listed as follows:

  • University of Alaska Fairbanks (AK)
  • North Dakota Department of Commerce (ND)
  • New Mexico State University (NM)
  • State of Nevada (NV)
  • Griffiss International Airport (NY)
  • Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi (TX)
  • Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (VA)

In part one of this research work the Federal Aviation Administration awarded seven contracts for qualified commercial entities to demonstrate or validate technologies the FAA considers essential to the safe integration of UAS in the NAS at FAA designated UAS Test Sites.

  • Contract 692M15-20-C-00001-Vigilant Aerospace Systems Inc, of Oklahoma City, OK
  • Contract 692M15-20-C-00002-UtopiaCompressions Corporation, of Los Angeles, CA
  • Contract 692M15-20-C-00003 – Switch LTD, of Las Vegas, NV
  • Contract 692M15-20-C-00004-Calhoun Analytics, of Beavercreek Township, OH
  • Contract 692M15-20-C-00005 -Bell Textron, Inc of Ft Worth, TX
  • Contract 692M15-20-C-00006-Scientific Applications & Research (SARA), of Cypress, CA
  • Contract 692M15-20-C-00019-Scientific Applications & Research (SARA), of Cypress, CA
