US warship “shoots down drone launched in Yemen during Red Sea patrol”

Multiple press sources report the US Navy destroyer Thomas Hudner has shot down a drone on 15 November during operations in the Red Sea. The ship was transiting international waters Wednesday when it “engaged a drone that originated from Yemen and was heading in the direction of the ship,” according to a  Pentagon statement, which said that Hudner fired on the drone in self-defence. “The Hudner’s crew engaged and shot down the drone to ensure the safety of U.S. personnel,” the Pentagon said. “There were no U.S. casualties or any damage to the ship.”

The destroyer is part of the USS Ford carrier strike group (CSG) which also includes the USS Normandy, USS Ramage, USS Carney, and USS Roosevelt.
