The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced multiple contract awards to provide department-wide access to counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) capabilities.
The contracts are intended to provide DHS components with a common acquisition pathway for C-UAS hardware, software and services supporting fixed-site, mobile, aviation, maritime, aircraft-based and special mission environments.
According to DHS, the awards are designed to improve consistency, interoperability, operational flexibility and lifecycle management across the department, while allowing individual components to acquire capabilities tailored to their operational requirements.
The contracts cover a range of C-UAS capabilities, including detection, tracking, classification, identification, mitigation, command-and-control integration, training, maintenance, technical support, system integration, research and development, test and evaluation, and vendor-operated services.
DHS said the contract structure also supports future technology refreshes to help the department adapt to evolving unmanned aircraft system threats and changing operational requirements. Components expected to use the contracts include the US Secret Service, US Coast Guard, US Customs and Border Protection, Transportation Security Administration, Federal Emergency Management Agency and Federal Protective Service.
