MatrixSpace ships initial quantities of small, low-cost radar to US and international users

Massachusetts-based MatrixSpace has begun shipping initial quantities of its small, low-cost, high-performance radar, intended for rapid air- and ground-based situational awareness, as well as drone detection, to domestic and international customers, the company announced on 13 February.

Following a recent authorisation from the Federal Communications Commission, the radar is now available for commercial and governmental organisations seeking small, agile devices capable of operating in poor light or weather conditions. It features low size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C) characteristics and can be brought into operation within minutes, with no special training required.

“The demand for fast, effective ground and air surveillance is growing rapidly, and partners and customers tell us of their limitations with current solutions. MatrixSpace Radar is designed to provide radar for the rest of us – cost and performance which allows for use cases previously out of reach to commercial, public safety and defense situations,” said Dan Nobbe, VP of RF and Radar Systems.

Key system features include:

  • Low SWaP-C
  • Quick to deploy
  • Detection and monitoring of relevant movement in challenging conditions
  • Very low power consumption
  • Open architecture
  • 4D imaging radar technology
  • Exportable from USA
