Leonardo has unveiled a containerised configuration of its Falcon Shield counter-uncrewed aerial system (C-UAS) capability, developed with Marshall Land Systems.
The system, unveiled at Defence Vehicle Dynamics (DVD), integrates Leonardo’s HYAS command and control (C2) system and Nerio Ultra-Long Range (ULR) surveillance and target acquisition capability into a standard ISO container.
The containerised configuration is designed to support the rapid deployment of layered C-UAS capabilities, with Falcon Shield’s open architecture allowing the integration of different sensors and effectors. These can include radar, electronic surveillance measures and electro-optical/infrared systems, alongside kinetic and non-kinetic effectors.
Leonardo and Marshall Land Systems said the container can be transported by air, land or sea and deployed where C-UAS protection is required. Multiple Falcon Shield systems can also be networked, according to Leonardo.
Falcon Shield is already used by the UK Royal Air Force and Canadian Armed Forces. The UK version, known as Orcus, entered service in 2018 and has been deployed in the UK and overseas, including for major international events and against one-way attack drones.
