IDEX 2021: Edge group joins forces with Raytheon to integrate counter drone capability on Rabdan vehicles

Subsidiary of the Edge group, Al Jasoor is collaborating with Raytheon Emirates and Raytheon Intelligence & Space (RI&S) to embed a high-energy laser weapon system onto Al Jasoor’s Rabdan 8×8 vehicle platform. Al Jasoor’s sister company Earth has undertaken the integration of the advanced laser system with the Rabdan vehicle which is on display at the parent company stand.

The Rabdan 8×8 armoured fighting vehicle is a mission-ready platform built to meet a range of versatile objectives. Mobile on land and water, Rabdan is available in several configurations and can be equipped with different levels of armour protection to ensure tactical and technical advantages.

Raytheon’s High Energy Laser Weapon System is powered by technologies that use photons, or particles of light, to carry out military missions. The product uses an advanced electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensor, to detect, identify and track multiple threats, primarily from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Once targeted, the system is designed to rapidly and precisely engage, and neutralise, the non-cooperating UAV. The laser systems are designed to provide precision and “infinite magazine depth” or “virtually unlimited supply of ammunition” when connected to an adequate power source, and are well-suited to counter low-cost threats, such as those posed by drones. The laser system provides 360-degree coverage in a rugged package that can be scaled to accommodate the demands of the mission.
