Farnborough 2026 – Lockheed Martin develops counter-drone swarm system and low-cost interceptor

Lockheed Martin has developed the MORFIUS™ X-Rotor, a ‘one-to-many’ airborne high power microwave (HPM) counter‑drone system designed to neutralise more than 50 enemy drones in a single flight.

Designed for field recovery and reuse, MORFIUS is sensor and command and control agnostic.

Lockheed Martin said on July 20 that it is accelerating prototype production of MORFIUS and its HPM payload. The team is also planning the next series of flight tests, building on recent achievements in Arizona, California and Oklahoma, where it tested flight, intercept and lethality conditions.

MORFIUS X-Rotor builds off past variants which have flown since 2017 and leverages the same family of HPM effectors.

Lockheed also announced the PAC-3® Adapted Capability Effector (PAC-3 ACE™), an interceptor built to defeat a wide range of air and missile threats for less than half the cost of a PAC-3 MSE per unit. PAC‑3 ACE is fully linked to the Patriot weapon system and the Integrated Battle Command System.
