Diehl Defence and AEL Sistemas signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on July 3 regarding their cooperation on Brazil’s medium- and extended-range ground-based air defence programmes.
Diehl Defence acts as the prime contractor for the IRIS-T SLM air defence systems for medium-range and, in the future, the IRIS-T SLX system for extended-range. As the national partner, AEL Sistemas is responsible for integrating Brazilian technology components as well as providing logistical support within the country.
In a July 6 press release, Diehl Defence notes that during government consultations in Hanover in April 2026, under German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, both countries agreed on a MoU regarding their cooperation in the procurement of defence equipment and related activities.
