Vigilant Aerospace demonstrates airspace awareness technology for emergency response

Vigilant Aerospace Systems demonstrated its FlightHorizon TEMPO airspace awareness software during a public safety exercise in Williston, North Dakota, exploring how shared aircraft tracking data could support emergency response coordination.

The exercise continued the company’s partnership with the University of North Dakota (UND) John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, following earlier demonstrations and search-and-rescue training at Camp Grafton in April.

FlightHorizon TEMPO combines sensor data to provide a shared view of nearby aircraft activity. During the Williston exercise, Vigilant Aerospace configured the system to use radar and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) inputs, displaying aircraft tracks on a single map.

The technology is intended to help emergency responders and other organisations coordinate aircraft operations when multiple crewed and uncrewed aircraft are operating in the same area. UND said the exercises are helping participants assess how uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) traffic management systems could support disaster response and airspace management.

The partnership began in January 2025 at UND’s Gorman Field UAS test range and has since expanded through demonstrations and field exercises, allowing participants to evaluate airspace awareness tools in operational training environments.
