Project members met in Spain yesterday (21 September) to kick off the RAXUS: Risk-based Authorisation and eXecution in U-space airSpaces initiative.
Designed for rapid deployment, the SESAR Joint Undertaking funded project aims to develop digital solutions to streamline uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) operations in and outside U-space by automating flight authorisations and integrating risk assessments aligned with SORA and area risk assessment standards.
RAXUS enables near-automated workflows from intent declaration to U-plan submission, providing standardised, quantifiable evidence for regulatory approval and extending risk assessment to societal acceptance, noise and visual impact for innovative air mobility. RAXUS also aims to modernise the U-space flight plan process by granting clearances progressively and adapting to real conditions.
Meeting at ENAIRE’s facilities in Madrid, under the coordination of the CRIDA AIE research institute, the members focused on the two solutions to be developed for the project. SOL1 is a digitalised UAS flight authorisation system in compliance with risk-related requirements, while SOL2 is a multi-stage authorisation temporisation with advanced fairness service.
