The pilot of a JetBlue Airways passenger jet reported hitting a drone on Monday while preparing to land at New York’s JFK International Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed to CNN.
The FAA told the US news outlet that “the pilot aboard JetBlue Flight 948 reported the strike at approximately 3,000 feet in altitude while on final approach to the runway around 7:15 a.m. local time on Monday”.
The drone made impact with the aircraft just above the cockpit, according to the article. The flight landed safely six minutes later.
In addition, CNN and various other US media sources say that a helicopter that departed from JFK International Airport reported that it had collided with a remote control model plane at 500ft later the same day.
