EUROCAE invites comments on draft Network Identification Service standard

EUROCAE has released a draft of ED-347 – Technical standard defining the interface between the UAS operator and the Network Identification Service. Comments are invited by August 2.

The European Commission regulation on U-space mandates a Network Identification Service. This is one of the four mandatory services supporting the operation of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) within U-space airspace.

“The recommended way forward is the development of a technical standard defining the interface between the UAS Operator and the Network Identification Service, fully aligned with ASTM F3411-22a where relevant,” EUROCAE said. “The technical standard will cover protocol specifications, data security implementation requirements, performance considerations and supporting technology considerations.”

EUROCAE’s Working Group 105 UAS SG-3 UTM is responsible for developing the technical standard for Network Identification Services.

The technical standard will not only be used by manufacturers, but also by U-space Service Providers, UAS operators, ANSPs and regulators to support implementation and interoperability within the U-space ecosystem. Considerations as well as recommendations and options are included in the draft to support a range of operational and technical deployment choices.

The draft ED-347 can be viewed on the EUROCAE Workspace and a comment form is provided. Non-members of EUROCAE can register here and click on Access only to Open Consultation.
