Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has issued a notice to remind drone operators that flights over Coogee Beach require CASA approval.
Coogee Beach is in the approach and departure paths for Sydney Airport. Unapproved drone flying can therefore create serious risks for crewed aircraft.
“CASA may approve some drone operations for specific public safety purposes,” the authority said on June 25. “These approvals apply only to the approved operator, drone, location and activity. They do not apply to other drone operators, including recreational drone flyers.”
A CASA-verified drone safety app helps operators determine where they can and cannot fly.
