Amazon has posted a job vacancy for a Head of Regulatory Approvals, Australia for its drone delivery business unit, Prime Air.
The posting states that Prime Air “is building a drone delivery service that will safely get packages to customers in 30 minutes or less” and that the company is “evaluating Australia and other countries”.
The new role covers drone system certification and type approvals under the Civil Aviation Safety Authority’s (CASA) regulatory framework, airspace authorisations and flight permissions, and the operating certificates and compliance frameworks that govern Prime Air’s flight operations in Australia. The successful applicant is described as being the primary relationship owner with CASA while also coordinating closely with Airservices Australia, state and local planning authorities and community stakeholders.
This role will be based in Sydney or Canberra and reports to the Leader, Prime Air Expansion — Asia Pacific. Amazon in ideally seeking someone with experience in engaging with CASA or another national civil aviation authority on aviation or drone approvals, including preparation and submission of formal regulatory applications or technical dossiers. They would also need to be familiar with Australia’s drone regulatory framework and Specific Operations Risk Assessments (SORA), among other requirements.
The role description does not indicate which “other countries” Amazon is considering launching drone delivery operations in.
