France’s Clermont-Ferrand Airport conducts drone detection tests in real-time

Clermont-Ferrand Airport carried out drone detection tests in early January with UTM company Clearance and consortium members Sopra Steria and Oxygène Drone. The exercise is part of the ‘U-space Together’ programme led by French air navigation service provider DSNA and managed by Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile (ENAC).

A tracker placed on the drone transmitted its position live on the Clearance map, enabling air traffic services to know the movements of the drone in the airspace and access the details of the flight (height, speed, etc.). This new feature, which is still in the experimental phase, would enable future U-space Service Providers to ensure secure drone management, and support safe coordination of different types of aircraft.
