European Commission, EASA to organise U-Space regulatory workshop on May 14 and 15

The European Commission and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has sent out an invitation to the Network of U-Space Demonstrators, to attend the workshop on U-Space. This will be organised on 14 May 2019 (for Member States’ representatives) and 15 May 2019 (for Industry representatives) at the EASA HQ in Cologne.

“The Drones Amsterdam Declaration of 28 November 2018 called for the development of “an institutional framework for a competitive U-Space services market and how drones need to be operated in the Single European Sky”,” according to  Koen De Vos, Senior Drone Expert, European Commission. “The Declaration urged for a close cooperation with Member States and all stakeholders involved.  The European Aviation Safety Agency and the European Commission are currently working on a proposal for a U-Space Regulation, together with a group of Member State experts.

“The objective of this workshop is to present the first ideas for the draft regulatory proposal, discuss the principles that will govern U-Space and consult the relevant stakeholders, including the members of the European U-Space Demonstrators Network, before finalising the draft opinion that we will then submit for formal focussed consultations.
