C-UAS company Alpine Eagle appoints Klaus Kittman Engineering Director

Counter-UAS company Alpine Eagle has announced the appointment of Klaus Kittmann as Director of Engineering. Kittmann joins from Airbus, where he most recently served as Head of System of Systems at Airbus Urban Mobility. He will lead Alpine Eagle’s engineering team and its work on C-UAS, including its Sentinel system.

According to a company statement: “Klaus brings nearly two decades of aerospace leadership, spanning UAV innovation, system architecture, and prototyping for next-generation air defence and mobility platforms. At Airbus, he oversaw architectures integrating aircraft design, airspace, infrastructure, and regulation for electric flight. He led the X-Works engineering team at Airbus Defence and Space, delivering advanced prototypes and training systems for rotorcraft operations. He was also the chief engineer of Project Zephyr, designing high altitude pseudo-satellites, solar-powered stratospheric drones, which were capable of operating at heights of 20km for several weeks.

“Earlier in his career, Klaus led UAV research at Stuttgart University, where he pioneered civil certifications for large-scale drones.”

Alpine Eagle builds Sentinel, an air-to-air, AI-driven drone defence system to detect, classify and stop hostile drones before they strike. In the past year the company has seen the company secure more than EUR10 million in funding by leading investors including IQ Capital and General Catalyst, work with the British Army on Project Vanaheim (a joint trial of anti-drone capabilities with British and US forces), expand to the UK and successfully tested the Sentinel system in Ukraine.
