Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is seeking industry feedback on draft guidance for preventing conflicts between drones, with consultation open until 17 November 2026.
The guidance recommends that operators share accurate flight plans, use available uncrewed aircraft systems traffic management (UTM) services, coordinate to resolve potential conflicts and monitor flights against planned operating areas. It also encourages the use of electronic conspicuity equipment where appropriate, particularly for higher-risk operations such as beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flights.
The draft sets out expectations for UTM service suppliers as services develop, including conformity with applicable operating rules and arrangements for service performance, incident reporting and security. CASA says the guidance is principles-based and does not introduce new regulatory requirements.
The consultation supports Australia’s UAS Traffic Management Action Plan, published in December 2024. CASA expects the guidance to evolve as UTM capabilities mature. It covers conflicts between drones, not between drones and crewed aircraft.
