AirMarket teams with TELUS to deliver UTM services

Canadian data provider AirMarket has signed a letter of intent with communications company TELUS to form a strategic alliance with the aim of accelerating the development and deployment of Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) for the global drone market. The two companies are combining efforts to deliver a telecommunications control framework to safely integrate Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) into Canadian airspace.

AirMarket’s utmOSphere solution currently operates in New Zealand, Italy and Dubai, and this alliance between AirMarket and TELUS aims to build solutions that will help to expand market opportunities for both companies. The partners are working closely with the Canadian airspace management and regulatory bodies, NAV Canada and Transport Canada, to assist them in developing the necessary policies, rules and regulations to ensure that drones can safely fly within Canada’s airspace. The goal is to foster the creation and development of new drone technologies, such as autonomous protection of airports and monitoring of pipelines, railways, electrical transmission lines and bridges.
