Ukrainian C-UAS systems “now being used by US forces in Saudi Arabia”

Multiple press reports say the US is deploying the Ukrainian SkyMap drone interceptor system at the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia and that Ukrainian soldiers are training US troops on how to the use the system.

Sky Map is a Ukrainian command-and-control (C2) software platform, part of the wider Sky Fortress C-UAS network. The system uses acoustic-based C-UAS sensors to detect and track Russian/Iranian drones and loitering munitions. The system is highly cost-effective and is now being deployed by the US military.

According to UNITED24 Media “The system consists of thousands of sensors (reportedly 9,500 to 14,000+) placed across Ukraine on poles or building tops….Each sensor utilizes a smart microphone and a cellular phone to detect the unique sound signatures of drones, cruise missiles, and low-flying helicopters, using machine learning to differentiate them from, for example, city noises. By using multiple sensors, the system calculates the drone’s position, direction, and speed in real-time. The detection data, referred to in some contexts as “Sky Map” or as part of the “Sky Fortress” network, is transmitted to a central computer, which then alerts mobile fire teams via tablets/iPads.”
