Terra Drone has begun developing a counter-uncrewed aerial system (C-UAS) designed to protect critical infrastructure.
The system will build on technologies Terra Drone is developing for defence applications, including interceptor drones, autonomous flight, AI-based target tracking, sensor integration and command-and-control (C2). These technologies will be adapted into an integrated system that detects, identifies and tracks suspicious drones entering low-altitude airspace around critical infrastructure and, where necessary, responds using interceptor drones and other countermeasures.
In addition, the systems will be tailored for the individual operating environment and airspace management requirements, using the company’s safety management, infrastructure inspection and uncrewed traffic management experience from its civilian drone businesses. Terra Drone aims to establish a low-altitude protection platform capable of safeguarding critical infrastructure continuously. Initial target sectors include oil and gas, electric power, airports and ports, telecommunications, logistics and data centres.
Terra Drone will continue developing interceptor drone technologies for defence applications while working with critical infrastructure operators, sensor and radar companies, security providers, governments and regulatory authorities to conduct use-case-specific demonstrations and system integration for the new C-UAS platform.
The company also announced on 31 August that it has entered into a strategic collaboration with DRB-HICOM Defence Technologies Sdn. Bhd. (DEFTECH), a Malaysian defence and security company. Terra Drone said in a press release that it will collaborate with DEFTECH “to position Malaysia as its strategic hub for expanding into the ASEAN defence market and accelerate the deployment of defence drone solutions throughout the region”. The agreement includes Terra Drone’s C-UAS technologies.
