The US CIA intelligence agency is warning of Russian drone attacks against Spain, France or Italy, according to Spanish newspaper reports.
“European foreign ministries are working with a detailed report following the visit of the Agency director to Moscow/Russia (sic) would launch the fearsome Gerbera missiles, with a range of 600 km, from ships, according to information obtained by the Lithuanian government,” said the report in El Mundo.
“We are not surprised. We know that our airspace is being tested and has been violated on several occasions,” according to European Commission officials speaking to the newspaper.
The Kyiv Independent reports that suspected Russian drones crashed in Romania and Moldova overnight on September 24, amid a sustained mass drone and missile attack on Ukraine. “Moldovan police said in a post on Facebook that a drone with “specific elements of the ‘Gerbera’ type used by the Russian Federation” was found in the country’s Floresti district. Another drone violated Romania’s airspace for around four minutes before crashing near Solca, Suceava County, Digi24 reported.”
Russian violations of NATO airspace appear to be increasing. According to the defence ministry of Lithuania: “On September 23, Poland reported a Russian military helicopter briefly violated its airspace, forcing the NATO member to scramble fighter jets while ground forces remained on alert.”
The Lithuanian defence ministry recorded six violations of NATO’s airspace on its eastern border during August 2026.
