Russia deploys new C-UAS units on Moscow buildings

New counter-drone systems are being deployed on civil buildings in Moscow, according to defence media reports.

The reports cite military observer Massimo Frantarelli as their source. Frantarelli shared video of the systems being delivered and installed on his social media.

The systems appear to be Pantsir-SMD-E air defence missile systems that are adapted to counter drones. One of Frantarelli’s videos shows the system being delivered to the top of the Nordstar Tower business centre in Moscow.

Rostec’s Pantsir-SMD-E includes a surveillance radar with an active phased-array antenna and a detection range of up to 24 km, as well as the 1RS2-1 millimetere-wave radar.

Ukrainian defence news source Militarnyi says Pantsir systems have been deployed on the rooftops of Moscow buildings since 2023, with at least seven systems used to protect Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence.
