OWL launches Athena-MDR drone detection radar at ISC East 2026

Observation Without Limits (OWL), a U.S.-based manufacturer of 2D and 3D radars for ground and low-altitude airspace surveillance applications, has announce its recently launched Athena-MDR Drone Verification Radar is now available, and will be featured during ISC East 2026, taking place between November 4-5 at the Javits Center in New York, booth #1040.

According to Adam Robinett, OWL. CEO. “It is a micro-Doppler radar that works as part of an integrated drone detection solution in which OWL’s 3D surveillance radars provide tracking overwatch at long ranges. Athena-MDR is directed by the 3D surveillance radar to lock onto the air target and serve as the confirmation sensor. Unlike other sensors that may be limited by weather, lighting, or the presence (or lack) of an RF signal or remote ID, Athena-MDR tracks virtually any drone at long ranges — even small consumer quadcopters are  trackable and can be verified beyond 2 km.”

Additionally, Athena-MDR incorporates a 4K camera to provide visual tracking of the drone, plus the system is designed to integrate with other more powerful cameras, says the company. Athena-MDR also makes it possible to track drones even when they are hovering in place, as the system’s micro-Doppler capabilities enable the detection of drone rotary blades in motion.

With target classification capabilities that permit distinguishing among humans, animals, and ground and water vehicles, the GA1360LH provides longer detection ranges and improved target tracking for automated detection, tracking, deterrence, and response to intrusions within a 1 km radius of critical sites, according to OWL.

The upgraded GA7360LR 3D system supports the full range of airspace situational awareness applications, including basic drone detection, full counter-UAS solutions, and beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) use cases

The September issue of the 2026 Unmanned Airspace Global Counter-UAS Systems Directory is now available. The guide is the world’s only comprehensive, continually updated directory of global C-UAS companies and systems. It itemises over 1,000 C-UAS products and services with performance details, company sales and partnerships arrangements. It is updated every month and broken down into niche sub-sectors (net-capture, missiles, intercept drones, detectors etc) to give C-UAS procurement and industry personnel a unique perspective of global C-UAS technical capabilities and market positions. It is available in word, PDF and excel formats and Unmanned Airspace readers are eligible for a range of discounts. For more information about the Directory please contact the editor Philip Butterworth-Hayes at philip@unmannedairspace.info.
