MyDefence launches AI-powered wearable drone detector Wingman Edge

MyDefence has unveiled Wingman Edge, a next-generation wearable drone detector that combines signature-based RF detection with continuous AI-powered spectrum analysis on the device.

The system is designed to analyse RF activity beyond signals already stored in a threat library, allowing it to identify and classify a broader range of activity, including drone signals, controllers, communications links, Wi-Fi, analogue video and previously unknown signals.

Wingman Edge processes signals directly on the device, enabling analysis where network connectivity is limited or unavailable. The system is passive and can share detections and spectrum intelligence with other soldiers, vehicles and connected systems to contribute to a wider operational picture.

The device weighs less than 1kg and is 17% lighter than the previous generation. MyDefence said its Spectrum Intelligence software layer is backward compatible with existing systems, allowing operators to add the new capability without requiring a new hardware architecture.

The company also said the US Army has purchased MyDefence wearable drone-detection systems with a cumulative value of USD77 million over the past 18 months. Wingman Edge is the first product in the company’s new Edge Generation, with the same intelligence layer intended to extend across dismounted, mounted, fixed-site and maritime systems.

The September issue of the 2026 Unmanned Airspace Global Counter-UAS Systems Directory is now available. The guide is the world’s only comprehensive, continually updated directory of global C-UAS companies and systems. It itemises over 1,000 C-UAS products and services with performance details, company sales and partnerships arrangements. It is updated every month and broken down into niche sub-sectors (net-capture, missiles, intercept drones, detectors etc) to give C-UAS procurement and industry personnel a unique perspective of global C-UAS technical capabilities and market positions. It is available in word, PDF and excel formats and Unmanned Airspace readers are eligible for a range of discounts.
