Japan to provide C-UAS system to Royal Malaysian Navy

Japan is to provide counter-uncrewed aerial system (C-UAS) support to Malaysia, following a deal signed in Tokyo today (20 October).

Mr Motegi Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H.E. Dato’ Seri Haji Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin, Minister of Defence of Malaysia, signed and exchanged an agreement for 1.65 billion yen for Japan’s Official Security Assistance (OSA) FY 2026 project.

Japan will provide a C-UAS system to the Royal Malaysian Navy and will boost the force’s security capabilities such as monitoring and surveillance. This is the first OSA project to provide a C-UAS system.

OSA is a grant aid cooperation framework which provides equipment and supplies as well as assistance for infrastructure development to recipient country armed forces and other related organisations.

Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement announcing the deal that the Royal Malaysian Navy engages in monitoring and surveillance of sea lanes which are important for Japan and the surrounding region, playing a key role for stability and prosperity in the region.
