The Michigan Air National Guard is looking to two handheld, rifle-style drone gun systems and an on-site training package for up to 10 members over one day of instruction. The system must have the capability to mitigate single drones, drone swarms and autonomous drones that are preprogrammed for navigation without a direct operator link.
The system will be used to mitigate small uncrewed aerial systems (sUAS) by emitting a directional disruption or jamming signal in the electro-magnetic-radio spectrum. A solicitation notice posted on the US government procurement portal says mitigation methods employing optical or laser ‘dazzling’ are not acceptable.
The system is not required to have its own organic detection and tracking capabilities, but must be capable of integrating with the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) to receive target cueing data. It must be man-portable and able to be operated by a single person while continuously moving on foot. The system should not require the operator to stop ground movements to set up and engage threats.
The mitigation component of the system must possess a rifle-style or gun-like physical form
factor, designed to be shouldered or held and aimed at a specific target. The system must be a
standalone device and not an accessory or attachment that requires mounting to a duty weapon
(e.g., M4 rifle). According to the solicitation notice, “this directional, point-and-shoot capability is critical to minimise collateral interference with friendly communications and legitimate commercial UAS operations in the area”. Systems that create a general, non-directional jamming ‘bubble’ around the operator are not acceptable.
The drone gun portion of the system must be able to disrupt signals on RF frequencies as well as
drones being controlled by GPS satellite frequencies. The system must mitigate and defeat
drones utilizing commercial off the shelf (COTS) frequencies.
Offers are due by July 2.

The 2026 Unmanned Airspace Global Counter-UAS Systems Directory is now available. The Guide is the world’s only comprehensive, continually updated directory of global C-UAS companies and systems. It itemises over 1,000 C-UAS products and services with performance details, company sales and partnerships arrangements. It is updated every month and broken down into niche sub-sectors (net-capture, missiles, intercept drones, detectors etc) to give C-UAS procurement and industry personnel a unique perspective of global C-UAS technical capabilities and market positions. It is available in word, PDF and excel formats and Unmanned Airspace readers are eligible for a range of discounts.
