Denmark’s HCA Airport hosted a demonstration of counter-uncrewed aerial systems (C-UAS) technologies on 24 September. The technologies had been developed as part of the FDC CORE hackathon, an initiative bringing together Danish Defence, companies, startups and research institutions to address concrete operational challenges.
During the hackathon, held in August, around 80 participants worked on different elements of a modular C-UAS system. The challenge focused on protecting critical infrastructure such as airports, ports and energy facilities against unwanted commercial and autonomous drones. Participants worked with technologies including different types of sensors, drone detection and identification, situational awareness and the integration of data from multiple systems.
HCA Airport served as the real-world case throughout FDC CORE, providing a relevant environment for exploring how different C-UAS technologies can work together around critical aviation infrastructure.
The UAS Denmark Test Center, located at HCA Airport, provides an environment where companies, researchers and authorities can develop, integrate and test drone technologies under realistic conditions. FDC CORE demonstrated how this environment can support collaboration between technology developers and operational end users, enabling defence and security challenges to be addressed through rapid development, testing and demonstration.
The solutions and experience gained through FDC CORE will now contribute to the continued development of technologies for protecting critical infrastructure against unwanted drones.
