Saab has introduced the Combat Boat 90 Capability X (CB90 CX), a new naval platform with a short-range air defence (SHORAD) configuration designed to address aerial threats, including the growing proliferation of uncrewed air systems.
The SHORAD configuration uses an anti-aircraft autocannon for air defence, providing a gun-based capability against aerial threats. Saab positions the system as part of a broader approach to distributing combat capabilities across naval forces.
The CB90 CX is designed for optionally crewed operations using Saab’s Autonomous Ocean Core. It will be available in three initial configurations: intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), anti-ship warfare and short-range air defence.
The ISR variant uses Saab’s Giraffe 1X radar, while the anti-ship configuration provides over-the-horizon strike capability against surface vessels.
The vessel is currently in production for Sweden, its launch customer, and will operate alongside the existing CB90 NG.
