The European Council of the European Union has adopted an assistance measure worth EUR 20 million under the European Peace Facility (EPF) in support of the armed forces of Nigeria.
The new assistance measure relates to the provision of non-lethal defence capabilities to the Nigerian armed forces in the areas of counter-uncrewed aerial systems (C-UAS), counter-improvised explosive devices, night vision and individual protection. The goal is to improve the security of the troops deployed on Nigeria’s national territory and strengthen their capacity to react against malign external actors, armed groups and bandits.
The measure aligns with shared priorities and forms part of the EU engagement to support peace and stability in the country. The support under the EPF is part of a broader package of EU assistance that combines various tools, including assistance aimed at preventing and countering violent extremism.
