The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is looking to hire an uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) expert, who would join the Airspace Regulation team as the UK looks to implement a new Airspace Modernisation Strategy.
The UAS expert is needed to help integrate the demands of diverse airspace users such as UAS, eVTOL/hybrid aircraft, as well as general, military and commercial aviation, spaceports and space launch operators. They will perform regulatory oversight of the current airspace system to support the development of polices to integrate UAS and other new users, and assist in developing and implementing strategies and policies for airspace design, use or change.
The UAS expert will also review and scrutinise airspace proposals from a wide range of sponsors such as operators, airports, the military and spaceports, producing objective and independent assessments of the direct and consequential airspace impacts for each proposed airspace change design. They would then lay out the conclusions of these assessments and form a key part of the CAA’s transparent decision-making process for approvals.
A sound understanding of UK airspace, air traffic operations and emerging technology developments in the aviation industry is essential for the role.
Applications close 12 October. The CAA said it will be interviewing for the role at the end of the month.
