Kraken Technology Group and Saab UK have tested a prototype autonomous ‘drone seeker’ vessel for maritime environments.
The experimental vessel combines Kraken’s K3 SCOUT uncrewed surface vessel with Saab UK’s Giraffe 1X radar designed to detect and track airborne threats in real time. Integrated into K3 SCOUT’s modular payload bay, Giraffe 1X is designed to provide early warning of aerial threats, detecting even small airborne targets at extended ranges.
Kraken and Saab UK are both based in Fareham, where the K3 SCOUT and Giraffe 1X are manufactured. Kraken is scaling production to 1000 vessels per year.
In July, the Royal Navy demonstrated that the K3 SCOUT could be airdropped and operated without the need for a support ship or nearby port.
