BAE Systems completes BATS live trials against UAS threats

BAE Systems has completed its latest series of live trials of its BATS system in Scotland, demonstrating the sense, decide, effect mission chain against uncrewed aerial threats through a single integrated command-and-control architecture.

The trials, conducted over a two-week period, included an integrated gun system and a kill-chain using electronic warfare (EW).

BAE Systems reports that during the trials, BATS’ fused information from multiple sensors into a common operational picture, enabling operators to detect, identify and track aerial objects while distinguishing threats from non-threatening activity. Operators were able to confirm the identification of different categories of drones and deploy the appropriate effect for each threat, the company said. The systems’ non-kinetic response was also successfully tested, integrating EW and software-defined radio technologies.

The trials follow BATS integration and deployment testing in July.
