Airservices Australia has teamed up with drone operators, UAS Service Suppliers (USS) and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority to test Australia’s emerging Uncrewed Traffic Management (UTM) ecosystem. Airservices predicts there will be 60 million drones in Australian skies in 2043 alone.
The test enables Airservices to fine tune its Flight Information Management System (FIMS), which has been in development for approximately two years and will be the ‘backbone’ of the UTM ecosystem.
The UTM desktop testing brought together industry and government participants to validate how operators, USS applications and the FIMS interact as a connected ecosystem. Test event participants cited automated approvals, simplicity of access and shortened time frames as some of the key highlights.
