AVI-SPL and Matternet have partnered to deploy autonomous drone delivery for mission-critical service logistics in metropolitan markets.
The companies said the partnership will combine AVI-SPL’s service, integration and supply chain network with Matternet’s drone delivery technology to transport equipment and replacement parts to field technicians.
The initial use cases include delivering critical parts to technicians working in congested urban areas, where road traffic can delay ground transportation. The companies also identified faster service response times and integration with AVI-SPL’s wider supply chain as potential applications.
Matternet operates its M2 drone, Matternet Station and Matternet Software Platform for commercial delivery operations. The company said its technology has supported more than 60,000 commercial flights in urban and suburban environments in the US and Europe.
Matternet has FAA Type Certification and Production Certification for its drone delivery system and operates with partners including UPS and Ameriflight under Part 135, according to the company.
